Her Story
About Anne
Anne Archer owns and operates Batch Cupcakery at 555 South Virginia Street, Suite 104 in Reno, Nevada. Originally a biochem major in college who came to Reno intending to attend medical school, she started a family, worked as a realtor for many years, and pivoted to baking during a downturn in the real estate market. She opened the bakery 18 years ago after practicing recipes with friends who were pastry chefs and testing them at her children's sporting events. The business began as a cupcake bakery but evolved to focus on healthy alternatives, with approximately 75 percent of offerings now keto, paleo, gluten-free, or vegan, all sourced organically and King Green Certified. Archer emphasizes integrity in her products and business practices, noting that what the bakery claims to be is exactly what it delivers. She credits her success to putting in the work, especially upfront, and to setting and reviewing written goals with her employees each year. In addition to running the bakery seven days a week and expanding to online ordering and delivery, she supports local causes such as the Children's Cabinet for at-risk youth, the Diabetes Foundation, and annual fundraisers for students pursuing culinary school.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Anne
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work and putting in the effort, especially upfront. Setting goals every year with employees and writing them down helps a lot. Even though I use AI tools like ChatGPT, you still have to do the work yourself. By writing down goals and reviewing them, we accomplish a lot because we intended it.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My biggest thing is to just jump in if you're passionate about it. Don't think too much or it will seem too scary and you'll never do it. Just go for it, even without a business plan at first. If it's something you're passionate about, go for it. There's resources out there, but fear keeps people back. We have to expand outside our comfort zone.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family is the big one. Integrity is key - what we say we are, we are. Being true to claims like being organic, especially in Reno where sourcing can be challenging. People come back because of that integrity.
