Her Story
About Anne
Anne Spoldi has spent more than 35 years reinventing herself, one meaningful chapter at a time. She began her career as an analytical chemist at GE before moving into product management at PerkinElmer, where she spent 12 years and met her husband. From there, she headed to Sun Microsystems in California, where her passion for leadership development took root. In 2007, following the death of her brother, she stepped away for a sabbatical, a pause that would ultimately reshape the direction of her career.
In 2008, Anne joined Merck as Chief of Staff to the CIO, a role she held for a decade while quietly building toward her next reinvention. In 2019, while working full-time, she completed Georgetown University's leadership coaching program and launched her own coaching practice, Prossimo. Since then, she has coached 300 to 350 leaders, helping them navigate change with clarity, courage, and purpose. She is an active member of the International Coaching Federation and holds her PCC credential.
In November 2025, Anne self-published her first book, The Long Way Here: Stories that Inspire Resilience, Growth, and the Courage to Lead, which carries an endorsement from renowned executive coach Marshall Goldsmith. Beyond her coaching and writing, she designs leadership programs and speaks as a keynote speaker on resilience and growth. Outside of work, Anne finds joy in traveling, reading, cooking, and entertaining family and friends — pursuits that, much like her career, reflect her belief in staying curious and open to what comes next.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Anne
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being open to change. If there's one constant throughout my career, it's been change itself, and I've always tried to meet it with adaptability and resilience. That mindset has allowed me to navigate my career thoughtfully, even through the moments that felt most uncertain.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I ever received was that I was responsible for my own career, and for my own happiness. No one else was going to do that work for me. I took that to heart, and it's shaped every major decision I've made since.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I strongly encourage young women to put as much focus on leadership as they do on their technical skills and expertise. It isn't an either/or — it's both. Leadership combined with expertise is what truly sets you apart and drives your career forward.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
There are real opportunities for advancement, because leadership presence and strong people skills are what differentiate women in technology organizations today. At the same time, the challenges are just as real: gaining the depth of experience needed, showing up with confidence, communicating effectively, and finding the courage to use your voice and speak up.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I'm deeply independent, and I place a high value on authenticity. I love to reflect — it's how I make sense of my experiences and grow from them. Above all, I care about having a positive impact on the people I work with. There's nothing that brings me greater joy than coaching a woman as she finds her voice and earns the promotion she's worked for.
