Her Story

About Anne

My career journey has taken me through multiple industries and leadership roles. I started in sales at a car dealership and worked my way up to finance manager, eventually becoming finance director of a mid-sized dealer group where I served for about 8 years. Growing up on a family farm, I learned economics and business principles alongside my dad, which gave me a foundation that made my first economics class feel like something I had already lived. For 8 years, I was the only woman in high-level sales management, working with sales managers and GMs in a male-dominated environment. I've owned an insurance agency since November 2019, which I'm currently in the process of selling. After getting my MBA a couple years ago, I founded Empowering Experiences because I realized how important it is to give women a voice. Through this venture, my co-collaborator and I have hosted monthly speaking events for 2 years where 3 women share their experiences each month. What we've learned is powerful: when we get a group of women in a room who all look different, young and old, from all sorts of cultures and backgrounds, and they start telling their stories, we realize we're all the same. Those barriers drop and women realize they're not alone. I've also been president of a nonprofit since 2001, where we collect money, buy meals, and give to organizations to bless people while respecting their dignity. Last year, we provided 3,500 meals to our local community. My most notable achievement is having the ability to give voice to those who don't know they have one, creating platforms that honor and respect people where they are while letting them know their voice matters.

Ten minutes with Anne

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the acceptance of failure as a step in the process and not a destination. Knowing that mistakes are going to happen, having the continuous drive to do better, improve, get up and continue going. I think one of the challenges sometimes is we see a hiccup in life as an ending versus just a step in the process. That mindset has allowed me to keep moving forward and growing throughout my career.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important values to me are respecting the dignity of people and honoring them where they are. It's not about my organization getting credit, it's about respecting the dignity of those who are receiving help, allowing them to be blessed versus having to ask for help again. I believe in finding ways to honor and respect people where they are, but also letting them know that they're important and their voice matters. Creating spaces where women don't have to wear masks and can show up authentically, owning all parts of themselves, the runs in their nylons, the peanut butter smudges, the late arrivals from dropping kids off, and still being able to outwork and outperform while wearing all the hats.
