Her Story
About Annette
Annette Callahan is a chaplain based in the Denver Metropolitan Area with a decade of formal ministry experience — though she describes herself as someone who was, in many ways, born a chaplain. Her path into the role began when Al New of the Billy Graham Samaritan's Purse organization invited her to serve while she was helping communities recover from material damage after disaster. She initially hesitated, having grown up believing women could not hold leadership roles in the church, but after researching scripture and reflecting on her calling, she said yes — trusting the pastoral heart others had already recognized in her.
To prepare for the work, Annette pursued formal training through K-Love's chaplaincy courses before meeting Dr. Jan McCormick, who encouraged her to pursue seminary. She went on to earn a Master's in Divinity with a concentration in chaplaincy from Denver Seminary in 2024, building on years of hands-on ministry experience. Today she brings spiritual care into hospitals and onto the front lines of crises like flooding and hurricanes, meeting people from all walks of life in some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Beyond her direct ministry, Annette has become a mentor and guide to others entering the field, while also embracing reverse mentorship herself to keep growing. She has two manuscripts awaiting publication — one written to encourage new chaplains, and a prayer book offering examples for chaplains in practice. For Annette, chaplaincy isn't a transactional job but an act of soul care, rooted in prayer, love, and a deep sense of calling to serve others in their most critical moments.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Seek God first and know that He called you into chaplaincy. Get a mentor, get educated, do the hard work of learning about yourself and how God sees you. Be open to learning, honest with yourself, trustworthy, and 100% committed. Remember it is a calling and a privilege to care for people's souls, not just a job.
