Her Interview
Ten minutes with Annette
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the mentors who encouraged, challenged, and supported me throughout my educational journey. From a first-grade teacher who helped me feel valued to a family member who encouraged me to prioritize education during difficult times, each played an important role. My college communications advisor also pushed me to recognize and develop my writing abilities, teaching me that even challenging experiences can lead to growth.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to envision where they want to be and create a plan with small, achievable steps. Even dedicating 10 minutes a day to your dreams can make a difference over time. Remember that failure is part of success and the journey is not always linear. You become an expert by showing up consistently and keeping the promises you make to yourself. Your dreams may change, but keep moving forward, earning your progress every day, and remember that learning to walk comes before running.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value inclusivity, perseverance, cultural sensitivity, and continuous personal growth. I believe in challenging stereotypes, particularly by encouraging women to succeed in fields like AI and make a positive impact in their communities. My international travels have taught me the importance of understanding different cultures, overcoming communication barriers, and embracing new perspectives. These experiences have strengthened my ability to communicate effectively, adapt to unfamiliar situations, and appreciate the valuable lessons that come from stepping outside my comfort zone.
