About Annette

Annette Walter is a filmmaker based in Savannah, Georgia, who specializes in directing, script supervision, acting, and social media. She has been working in the film and TV industry for two years, having script-supervised two films in New York, while also taking on roles as a social media manager and creative producer on various projects. Currently a senior at Savannah College of Art and Design, she is majoring in film and TV with a minor in producing for media and expects to earn her bachelor's degree in fine arts in 2027. Her passion for filmmaking began in childhood, leading to her first place win in the state of Texas for a short film during high school. She has directed a music video colored by Company 3 and served as a behind-the-scenes producer for a Coca-Cola commercial. Annette attributes much of her success to the unwavering support of her family, particularly her parents and sister. She values dedication, commitment, and honesty in her work and personal life, and she advises aspiring filmmakers to persist through challenges, create their own opportunities, and never wait for permission to make art.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Annette

01What do you attribute your success to?

My family has been extremely supportive, especially my parents who are 100% in on my career choice and show up fully behind me, giving feedback and loving me through everything. My sister also helps by reposting my stuff and getting my name out there. I owe a lot to them because having that full family support is a gift in this unpredictable industry.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My biggest piece of advice is you can't give up when things get hard. If you really want it, you have to keep making art and don't wait for permission. You cannot wait for someone to give you an opportunity all the time. You gotta start making it yourself, make your own opportunities, and then opportunities will happen. Be super persistent, and if that's what you love and you want to do, you can do it.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges include the rise of AI, though I believe art cannot be replicated by robots because it is meant to relate human to human, and the unpredictability of the industry where nothing is set in stone. Opportunities include people going back to movie theaters, which is exciting for filmmakers as it means we can see our work on the big screen with audiences bonding over it, giving us hope.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Dedication, commitment, and honesty. I really value people being authentic to themselves and not putting on a fake persona. I appreciate people who are real and vulnerable with others. Dedication and commitment to projects is admirable, and I try to promote that by always showing up to set with a good attitude and remembering why we're here - to have fun and make something meaningful.
