About Annie
Annie Kerns serves as a bike coach and tour guide in Breckenridge, Colorado, where she leads groups in mountain bike coaching and tours during the summer months. Her career in outdoor recreation began around 2019 when she started snowboard instructing as a winter activity, followed by bike tours in 2020 after learning of an opportunity through a friend and Craigslist. In 2023 she launched her own mountain bike tour business, though that venture is currently paused as she focuses on bike coaching and maintaining a fleet of 35 bikes. Kerns has pursued certifications outside of traditional college, including PMBIA Level 2 air specialist, PSIAASI Level 1 snowboard instructor and Children's specialist, and AIARE Avalanche Level 1, and she maintains memberships in PSIAASI, PMBIA, and AIARE. She has volunteered with The Cycle Effect, a nonprofit providing bike access to underserved youth, and with the local art space Brett Creates. Kerns values adaptability in business, noting that the best career advice she received was to remain flexible rather than rigidly pursuing an initial vision.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
When starting my business, the advice was to not get so set on what I think my business should be, and be ready to adapt, and basically just fill whatever crack it falls into. Because I may have a vision for it, but it might actually operate in a different way than I expected.
