Her Interview
Ten minutes with Annu
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of curiosity, resilience, continuous learning, and the ability to bridge technology with business value. Throughout my career, I have remained passionate about using innovation to solve real business problems while keeping the customer experience at the center of every decision. My journey, from coming to the United States on a scholarship at age 17 to leading complex enterprise software initiatives at organizations such as Adobe, Autodesk, and Siemens, has reinforced the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and maintaining a clear vision. I believe the best products are built through collaboration, persistence, and a commitment to lifelong learning, and I continue to invest in my growth through advanced education, professional certifications, and staying at the forefront of an ever-evolving technology landscape.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received was to think beyond technical execution and develop as a strategic leader. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to learn from exceptional mentors, including a Dean of Computer Science, Dr. Ann Gates, who encouraged me to broaden my perspective and focus on the bigger picture. I have also been inspired by Minette Norman, whose leadership and example reinforced the importance of empathy, collaboration, and leading with purpose. Those lessons continue to shape how I approach product development, leadership, and decision making today.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the technology industry is to believe in yourself and pursue opportunities with confidence. Women remain underrepresented in software and computer science, but there is tremendous opportunity for those who are willing to persevere, stay curious, and embrace challenges. If you enjoy problem solving and have a strong foundation in math and analytical thinking, you can absolutely succeed in this field. Keep an open mind, continue learning, and avoid defining your career path too early. Technology is constantly evolving, and being adaptable will open doors to opportunities you may never have imagined.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the software industry is the continued underrepresentation of women, along with the need for greater inclusivity and the persistence of ageism in the workplace. At the same time, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence presents both significant opportunities and challenges. AI is transforming how products are developed and how businesses operate, creating exciting possibilities for innovation while also requiring professionals to continually adapt, upskill, and ensure technology is implemented responsibly. Those who embrace lifelong learning and remain focused on delivering meaningful customer value will be well positioned to thrive in this evolving landscape.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are curiosity, continuous learning, integrity, and innovation. I believe that growth comes from remaining open to new ideas, embracing change, and constantly seeking opportunities to expand my knowledge. Outside of work, I enjoy exploring emerging technologies, pursuing professional development, playing the guitar, and practicing contemporary fusion dance. I believe innovation is not simply about creating new products, but about developing meaningful solutions and experiences that improve the way people work and live.
