Her Story
About Antoinette
I've been in the project risk insurance field for 15 years, with 12 of those years at my current company. I started on a contract job, and after that contract, they extended an offer for me to come on board, and I've been here ever since. I served as a project manager for 8 years before stepping into my current role as Project Risk Team Lead about a month ago. In this position, I handle training and mentorship, still manage some project management responsibilities, and check in with teams to make sure they're on their career path and taking all the steps to get to the next level. I manage large construction projects, handle client relationships, and oversee the partnership between the carrier and the client. I sit on a leadership committee within our project risk division and also help run the technology for our division. Beyond my division work, I serve as the national co-chair of the African Heritage Resource Group for my company. My most notable professional achievement has been becoming a team leader and motivating and building teams within our division. This field actually just fell into my lap through watching people, being curious about different things, and helping team members out, and I eventually just rolled into these spaces.

Ten minutes with Antoinette
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my drive to show up in spaces and contribute to the teams and colleagues that I work with in ways that I wish I would have had over my journey of becoming a corporate employee. The drive is just pouring into other people, building other people while I continue on my journey, making sure that I'm helping others progress and come up the same way that I did.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was to show up as your authentic self.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be confident, be bold, and be ready to attack some major challenges. But do it wholeheartedly.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
There are a lot of opportunities in insurance because it goes in so many different directions. As for challenges, within the insurance industry, every state has different mandates, different rules and regulations, and just staying on top of the ever-changing insurance market is probably the biggest challenge that we see across this industry. So it's just a continuous learning journey.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I'm faith-based, so showing up as the best version of yourself is important to me. Just being a good person, handling people with grace, and considering that people are doing and dealing with things on a daily basis that we may not see all the time. Ultimately, being a good person each day, whether that's a good morning that could transition somebody's day, or just sitting and listening and letting somebody vent. You don't really know how much you're doing for others when you're not even trying to.
