Her Story

About Anusha

I completed my PhD under the guidance of Dr. Munaya Gang Anguli, who has been very kind and patient with me and is one of my inspirations. She's a big shot in this field. I then did my postdoc work with Dr. Michelle Bradbury, who is also a stalwart in the field and has been a tremendous inspiration to me. She has worn so many hats - she's a clinician, she's an entrepreneur, and she's also a scientist. She's managing a thousand things together, and that's something I've really learned from her, all this multitasking. I'm currently building my brand and setting up operations in India, with plans to also set up the same company in New York when I return to the United States.

Ten minutes with Anusha

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think the blessings of my parents - they are always there with me. And also, the kind of validation I get from my friends and mentors. Even when I'm probably not doing my best, they're still there, always. They believe in me, and that really attributes to my success - the close ones. Having that kind of backing, knowing that someone believes in you no matter what, is what drives my success.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Young women should always be very bold at work. Do not fear about anything, any repercussions. Just be very honest about your work, very hardworking, and with your colleagues, everyone, be very straightforward. That is necessary.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges is that because biotechnology is a deep tech industry, you have to raise a lot of funds. That way, you have to be very outspoken, go to investors, go for your pitches, everything. So raising the funds is kind of a challenge, and you have to have a very good network. Those things, I think, are still a little bit lacking in this field. If you surround yourself with good colleagues, the network grows easily.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In terms of values, I think trust is one of the most important things. And comfort with the coworkers, be it with a personal partner or with a co-worker, so that you can be very open and very transparent about what's going on, and improve from there. Comfort is really all about being able to share the trust, build the rapport, and get the job done.
