Her Story

About Anushka

Anushka White is an Economics Teacher at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where she has spent the past two and a half years instructing college-level students in economics, as an Economics Adjunct Professor alongside her broader role as a World Language teacher. She holds an MBA in International Business and Finance from Babson College's F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor's degree in International Business from Simmons University. Fluent in English, French, and Spanish, she brings a global outlook to her teaching, shaped further by an extensive career spent living and working abroad in locations such as Holland, Kuwait, Calgary, and Aberdeen. Before transitioning into education, White built a career in international finance, working as a fixed income trader on the emerging markets high-yield desk at Scudder, Stevenson, Clark, later acquired by Deutsche Bank, and subsequently serving as a consultant for Rabobank in the Netherlands. Her shift toward teaching emerged during a period of relocating internationally alongside her former husband's career and forming a family, during which she began instructing French and business courses. This experience ultimately evolved into a long-standing dedication to language and economics education, spanning institutions across multiple continents, and reflected in her ongoing membership with ACTFL since 2014. White credits her professional achievements to the example set by her hard-working single mother and Business school professors whose entrepreneurial drive shaped her own work ethic. She approaches her career and personal life guided by the principles of consistency and perseverance, values that have carried her through significant personal challenges, including her brothers death and her own divorce. Professionally, she emphasizes the importance of maintaining goodwill throughout one's career, believing strongly in treating everyone with kindness since one never knows the full scope of another's influence. Committed to remaining current in her field, she regularly reads economic journals and publications such as The Economist, and Bloomberg business week. She has adapted her teaching methods to address modern challenges created by AI-assisted platforms. such as academic dishonesty, (where students rely on chatbots instead of critical thinking) and diminished human interaction, by requiring students to complete assignments on paper and in person to ensure authentic understanding of the material.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Anushka

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of resilience, continuous learning, and great upbringing by hardworking influential people who have helped shape me.

Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to have mentors, including a business school professor who encouraged me to continuously challenge myself, expand my knowledge, and always strive for personal and professional growth. That guidance instilled in me the belief that education is a lifelong journey and that successful people never stop learning or improving.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to continuously challenge yourself by taking on new roles, developing new skills, and stepping outside your comfort zone. Growth comes from embracing opportunities to learn and adapt. Equally important is never burning bridges and the ability to network. You never know when a professional connection may become a future colleague, mentor, client, or employer. I believe success is built not only on competence and hard work but also on integrity and the relationships you cultivate along the way.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women entering this field to stay current in their industry by continuously educating themselves. I make it a point to regularly read economic journals and publications like The Economist and the Wall Street journal to stay informed.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is AI, as students are increasingly using it to cheat rather than genuinely learning the material. To address this, I require my students to complete their work on paper and in front of me as a presentation so I can accurately verify their understanding.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Consistency, perseverance, and resilience are the values that guide my life. I believe that success is built through steady effort, determination, and the ability to keep moving forward despite setbacks. These principles have helped me navigate significant personal challenges, while remaining focused on my goals, my family, and my personal growth. I strive to approach every challenge with resilience, knowing that character is built not by avoiding adversity, but by continuing to persevere through it.
