Her Story
About Amylynn
I started my healthcare journey in high school as a certified nursing assistant and have dedicated 28 years to this field. I worked my way through hospital-based care in cardiology and psychiatric care with children and adolescents, then moved into pediatrics and primary care. My leadership path took me from charge nurse to practice manager, operations management, director, and ultimately to my current role as vice president of service line administration at Niagara Falls Memorial, where I have served for two and a half years. My main areas of expertise are outpatient services, primary care, cardiology, women's health, and general surgery. I provide leadership and strategic oversight for outpatient and specialty service lines, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and long-term growth initiatives while driving expansion to improve access to care for our large population facing health disparities. One of my proudest achievements is championing the grassroots outreach initiative, which I have built over the past two years. Every year from June through September, I go out with my entire team in a mobile van, going door-to-door to educate people and provide access to care where they are. We focus on breaking down barriers for underserved and vulnerable populations by addressing not just their health needs but their social determinants of health, including housing, food, clothing, transportation, and employment. Through this innovative approach, we have reached over 6,000 individuals and connected more than half to healthcare and critical resources. We have built strong community partnerships and now offer services like providing up to $1,000 for fridges and cooking supplies, as well as transportation to bring patients to our facilities. I utilize data from census tracts to identify opportunities and enhance our operational improvement and service expansion, following a value-based care model. My work is driven by my passion for quality care, my clinical nursing background, and the unwavering support of my family.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Amylynn
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say my family, first and foremost. Without the support of my husband and my children, I wouldn't be where I am today. I think, as well, just continuing to educate myself and being passionate about quality care and being able to provide that access to the community is what makes me successful. I think if I had not started out as a nurse with a clinical background, it would be very difficult for me to understand the clinical quality aspect of what goes into what's needed to help people.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice that I've received is just keep going.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell them to not give up, to keep going, and always ask questions. Don't be afraid.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Being a woman in healthcare and in a leadership position has always been challenging because, typically, you see more men in leadership positions. Even though nurses are mostly women, it is more male-dominated the higher you go in healthcare. All of my bosses are male. I think that just made me work harder to prove who I was and that I could make things happen and make an impact. In terms of opportunities, there's always opportunities for growth because healthcare is changing every day, so it's never the same. There's always something new to learn, so there's always opportunities to be educated and opportunities for growth. The opportunities to learn and for growth are pretty much infinite. Right now, I'm working towards moving into a COO position when my boss retires, and I'm being mentored for that role, which is an opportunity I'm hoping will come to fruition within the next year and a half to two years.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I think open, honest communication, transparency, treating others the way that you want to be treated, and giving what you can are most important. Giving back to the community, helping others, and being a servant leader are core values for me.
