Her Story

About Aparna

Aparna Ganesan currently works in revenue operations at T-Mobile, where she is unlearning her past enterprise operations experience and relearning marketing operations tools and terms to contribute to revenue generation. With 12 to 15 years of experience, including side hustles, she has worked across IT, real estate, healthcare, and telecommunications. Previously, as a contractor at Meta, she served as a program lead and key communicating point holder for an entire project spanning six organizations, ensuring smooth product launches by collaborating with stakeholders and engineers and resolving issues through building rapport. She completed her bachelor's degree in computer science at University Maduray Cambridge University in India after higher education there. Ganesan attributes her success to the support of her parents, husband, and children. She advises not hesitating to ask questions, being willing to unlearn and learn again, and for women entering the industry, not being scared of the opposite gender, standing up forcefully if put down, being nice to people, and coaching others for team and company success rather than individual achievement. She values positivity and a willingness to learn, and has noted challenges with limited job opportunities and perceived visa discrimination during her search.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Aparna

01What do you attribute your success to?

I owe my success to my parents, and my husband, and my kids, so they have been always supportive to me, and without their support I wouldn't have come this way.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Do not hesitate to ask questions. And be willing to unlearn and learn again. Keep learning, and be willing to ask more questions. Do not stall your questions or doubts.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be scared of opposite gender, and if they are trying to put you down, you have to come up even more forcefully. Be nice to women or be nice to people. Coach them and see them grow and bring them success. It's not your individual success but for the company and for your team.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges include limited opportunities and assumptions about visa restrictions during job search. I was actively applying but not contacted despite good matches. The only interview after 2 years led to this job. Need to give fair chance to people rather than visa discrimination.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Positivity and willing to learn. Be ambitious. Positivity has brought so much for me.
