About April
April Ashe-Charmaine serves as the founder and artistic director of SoulVida, Dance and Healing Arts. Based in Denver, Colorado, the company operates on a location-independent model while serving clients globally. With more than three decades of experience as a dancer, April integrates somatics and embodiment practices at the intersection of diasporic dance traditions from the African diaspora, emphasizing healing, grounding, and the capacity for individuals to process and transmute emotions through movement on the dance floor. Her work primarily engages BIPOC communities, the LGBTQ community, allies, leaders, social changemakers, and those curious about body movement. April is a Soma Source practitioner and a graduate of Satya Yoga. She earned an individualized degree in writing and performance from Metro State University of Denver and began her training at the Denver School of the Arts. She maintains membership in the International Association of Blacks in Dance. In addition to her dance and healing arts practice, April is a writer who has contributed articles to various newspapers and is featured in the upcoming anthology Bloody Transitions, which explores the perimenopause journey.
