Her Story

About April

I've been in coaching for about 12 to 14 years. What inspired me to go into coaching is the fact that I became a mother at 17, had my second child by 17, my third child by 21, and my fourth child by 25. Everybody always said that I would never be anything, amount to anything. So for me, I wanted to prove everybody wrong. Everything that everybody said I couldn't do and wouldn't do, I have done it, so I wanted to encourage other people. No matter what your start looked like, no matter where you come from, no matter the background, no matter what happened in your life, don't let life obstacles or life struggles make you feel like that you're not able to do the things that you put in your mind and set to do. In my current position as a life coach, I help people find their own uniqueness, help them build their confidence up in who they are, help them pull their strengths out of them. I help people to understand what their strengths are, use their strengths to better themselves, find their own uniqueness, and then step out on purpose by building up your confidence and your self-esteem. I work with both men and women. I actually started working with women years ago, but lately, God has been giving me some men. Men go through things just like women go through things, and a lot of times men don't have a safe space. I recently got a doctoral degree in Christian counseling, so I'm looking to expand and try to create a place where I can have a nonprofit organization to help others along the way.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Do what you love, and always be authentic. Never sit with anybody to be somebody else. Always be authentic, and just be yourself, because people tend to trust you when they know that you are authentic with them. Don't be ashamed of your story. Don't be ashamed to say, oh, I've been there before. People trust somebody who's been through something versus somebody who's been through nothing.
