Her Story
About April
I opened my business consulting firm in October 2024, which has been both the proudest and scariest moment of my career. After 15 years with Chick-fil-A, where I started in the drive-through and worked my way up to operating partner, I went back to school to pursue my passion for business. While earning my degree at the University of Georgia, my internship involved consulting for small businesses, and I discovered this was what I was truly passionate about. I help small businesses with HR compliance, training programs, handbooks, payroll, and overall growth strategies. What makes my approach different is that I don't just focus on the numbers. I take the time to sit down with owners, learn their story, understand why they started their company, and build from that foundation. I want to make sure that if clients choose my consulting firm, they know they're getting someone who genuinely cares about their company and will pay attention to their unique needs, not just someone who will punch in numbers and move on to the next business. I bring the hospitality and exceptional customer service I learned from the Chick-fil-A world to my consulting work, ensuring every client feels valued and supported.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with April
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would definitely say my drive and my children have kept me going. Being a great example for my kids has been the biggest thing. My drive and love to grow and learn has made me who I am today. I can't do anything without having a relationship with God and having God in my life. I also have a great support system in my husband. He is my biggest supporter and encourager. Without him encouraging me that I could do anything that I put my mind to, I definitely wouldn't be here doing this, having this consulting business. When you're out meeting clients and sometimes they decide to go with somebody else and not you, it can be discouraging at times. He's still in my corner saying it's okay, it's just not meant to be for that one, keep going, you're great, you're doing a great job. I have a huge drive and want to see success, so if it doesn't happen as fast, he's the one right next to me saying it's okay, keep going, you're gonna get there.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never give up, and never stop growing. My operator that I worked for told me that when a leader thinks that they have arrived, they probably don't need to be a leader anymore, because the leader is always growing, always learning. I have taken that to heart forever, because that's how I live. I'm always growing, always learning, and I will never stop growing and learning. I think with that mentality, having that mentality has got me as far as I've gotten and has been able to make me as successful as I've been able to be, because I'm open to things. If a client asks me, can you do this, or would you know this, even if I don't, I will be honest and be like, no, I'm not 100% sure, but I think we can look into this, we can find this, we can research it, and we can come down to the bottom of it. Me being open to learning and growing helps in this line of work, but just me being open to never stop learning will help me in life in general, and it has.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I would say the biggest challenge is finding a moment to get your name out there, because there are so many people that do consulting. The challenge is letting people know that if you go and you pick me with my consulting firm, you're not gonna be disappointed. You're going to have quality. You're going to have someone who's gonna pay attention and have care to your company, and not just worried about the numbers. I don't just worry about the bottom numbers of a company. I really take the time to sit down and get to know the owners. I want to know their story, want to know why they started their company, and take it from their story and go from that moment, and make sure I know the why behind their company so I can build from that moment and help them grow their company from their why. I think that's the biggest challenge, is making sure they know that if you do pick me for consulting, that's what you're gonna get. You're not just gonna get somebody who's just gonna punch a bunch of numbers in and go to the next person, the next business, that they have to work with.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Definitely making sure that I have a relationship with God is the huge value. That's number one for me. I also want to make sure that I treat everybody with honor, dignity, and respect in everything that I do. That's huge for me, because you never know who you're gonna come in contact with, and you never know what impact you're gonna put on somebody's life. So you want to make sure that you make it count. You want to make sure that you're genuine, and you want to make sure that you are able to have an impression in their life, and make sure that you can connect with them and help them in any way. So I try to make sure that every person I come in contact with, I make it count, and make sure that they feel appreciated and know that they're cared for in anything that I do.
