Her Interview
Ten minutes with April
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to perseverance, a willingness to keep learning, and taking advantage of every opportunity to grow. My journey from being a high school dropout to managing a Walmart store with more than $125 million in annual sales and leading over 300 associates taught me that your starting point doesn't define your future. Walmart's education benefits allowed me to earn my high school diploma and pursue my bachelor's degree, reinforcing my belief that hard work, continuous learning, and determination can open incredible doors.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the retail industry is to stay open to new opportunities and embrace change. The more flexible and willing you are to learn, the more opportunities you'll have to grow both personally and professionally. Most importantly, stay true to who you are—your authenticity is one of your greatest strengths, and it's what will set you apart as a leader.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide my work and personal life are integrity, service, continuous learning, and giving back to my community. I believe in investing in others through mentorship, volunteering, and leading by example, and I'm grateful to be part of organizations that encourage both personal and professional growth. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, volunteering alongside my son, and making time for hobbies like makeup, which help me maintain balance and stay connected to the people and experiences that matter most.
