Her Interview

Ten minutes with April

01What do you attribute your success to?

I give my most credit to God, and then to the family that has brought me up, and the family that I have now. God's made me who I am, and my family has molded me. I have really great parents, I have a really great support system, I have a really loving husband, and two great young boys.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Find what you love to do and not really stress about the rest. Find what you're really passionate for, whether that's investigations or whatever it may be, and don't stress about the politics and all the drama that comes with having this job, and just focus on what you're passionate about.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

It's not an easy path. You have to be prepared not to be one of the boys. You have to be prepared to be a woman in law enforcement. As a female, you have very special and unique talents that your male counterparts are not gonna have. Use what you have as a female before you try to just be one of the boys.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges include politics and pay issues in Greenville County. Opportunities include getting involved in a lot of different fields like drones, canines, vice and narcotics, and education opportunities when working for a large agency.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

People who tell the truth. If you lie to me, that kind of is the end of it. That's one of the biggest things for me, is telling the truth.
