Her Story
About April
I'm a business and entertainment attorney with nearly 7 years of experience in the legal field. I started my own practice and law firm, working alongside independent producers in connection with their film and television shows. I'm also deeply involved in the creator economy, where I advise marketing agencies that bring on talent for promotional campaigns, and on the flip side, I work with independent creators who have brand deals and negotiations that need to take place. Before law school, I worked in an advertising agency where we were developing different types of campaigns and always resorting to legal to make sure whether campaigns could be publicized or not. That experience really triggered my interest in being able to advise advertising agencies and brands on what they can and cannot do within the areas of the law. Throughout my law school journey, I was also exposed to working with entrepreneurs from the start, once they're forming their entities, and that knowledge has made my practice become well-rounded. I'm now able to advise on the business implications that certain campaigns might bring to a creator. I'm actively involved as a member of the boards for both the Beverly Hills Bar Association and the Orange County Bar Association. I've participated in panels with Beverly Hills Bar Association talking about the legalities behind the creator economy, been invited to serve as a guest speaker at USC's campus to talk about how the creator economy is evolving in comparison to traditional Hollywood, and done webinars with the California Lawyers of the Arts, a nonprofit organization that empowers artists creatively in different aspects. I have guest speaking opportunities coming in September, and I definitely see my practice expanding while taking part in more speaking engagements to share knowledge about the industry.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I would attribute my success to perseverance, continuous learning, and always being curious about learning. Even in the law, the law is very dynamic and it changes every time. And even if it's not the law, when there's a client, I focus on learning more about their business and being intellectually curious about what they do and how my support is going to help them accomplish their goals. I've maintained a commitment to serving others with integrity. Throughout my career as an entertainment and business lawyer, I have remained focused on building meaningful relationships, delivering value to my clients, and embracing challenges as opportunities to continue to grow. Success, for me, has also been the result of resilience and the ability to adapt, because sometimes things don't go according to plan and you need to be flexible, and at the same time, stay disciplined and maintain confidence in the face of obstacles. I would definitely attribute my success to the support of mentors, colleagues, families, and clients who have really trusted me and contributed to my journey.
