About April
April Pate is an accomplished payroll executive and operational leader with nearly three decades of experience driving payroll strategy, compliance, process improvement, and workforce support across large-scale organizations. Currently serving as Director of Payroll at Workwear Outfitters, she is recognized for her ability to lead high-performing teams, streamline complex payroll operations, and implement scalable solutions that improve efficiency and employee experience. With a strong background in payroll systems, compliance, automation, and cross-functional collaboration, April has built a career centered on ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while continuously improving organizational processes.
Before joining Workwear Outfitters, April held leadership positions with Asurion, ARAMARK, and SMS Holdings, where she led major payroll transformation initiatives across U.S. and Canadian operations. Her work has included managing payroll processing for hundreds of thousands of employees, leading compliance-focused projects, implementing automation workflows, overseeing year-end processing, and driving large-scale system improvements involving UKG, ADP, Workday, and UltiPro. Known for her problem-solving mindset and collaborative leadership style, she has consistently earned recognition for improving operational accuracy, strengthening interdepartmental communication, and developing standardized processes that support both compliance and long-term scalability.
April’s passion for payroll began early in her career and has continued to evolve through her commitment to lifelong learning and leadership development. She earned both her Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with a concentration in Project Management and her MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University and DeVry University, graduating with a 4.0 GPA while also obtaining her Six Sigma Green Belt certification. A dedicated advocate for employee engagement and team success, April believes strong leadership is rooted in accountability, empathy, and collaboration. She remains actively involved in the payroll community through professional organizations and conferences, where she continues to share knowledge and stay at the forefront of an ever-evolving industry.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to God. Without faith in him and his guidance, I wouldn't be who or where I am today. Secondly, the unwavering support of my family, and the mentorship of leaders who truly believed in my potential which has guided and sustained me through every step of my journey.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
'Dress for success because you never know who you are going to meet.' Living by this principle has not only earned me high professional recognition, but it has also consistently ensured I am always prepared to represent my organization at the highest level.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
There will be storms and rocky roads, but faith and resilience will lead the way. One thing to remember is, storms are temporary, and there is a rainbow of happiness waiting. You can accomplish anything you set your mind to. Just be ready because the Lord will take you through it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Federal and state regulations change daily resulting in challenges from computer maintenance to employee communications. Although they bring many challenges, they bring just as many opportunities of growth and learning.
