Her Interview
Ten minutes with Artemis
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say my mother. My mother's name is Ruby Chung. ... she influenced me most. She is a very kind, gentle woman. She cares a lot about the people surrounding her, and I think I got my social empathy from her. ... she was the first person to tell me to just do it. ... whenever I was kind of struggling in life, when I would think of her, I would kind of go back to, hey, what would my mom do.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Defining what you're passionate in. ... my supervisor could sense that at times I feel tired, mentally tired. ... we had a very long chat one day about what I am passionate about in life. ... I realized that I don't think I can spend my entire career in the private sector where innovation that I create stays within the company. I need bigger meaning to whatever I do.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Try things out in both directions and pay attention to how you feel. ... always put people in the center. ... always have a post-it note on your desk reminding yourself that you're serving the people. ... having human-centered design is important in this field.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
For work, I value most the impact that I can create in the world. I really enjoy teaching. ... my main focus is to help as many people as possible. ... in my personal life ... being able to impact people's lives, but also having personal growth.
