Arwa Ensour
Arwa Ensour is an educator and community leader based in Prospect Park, New Jersey, currently serving as President of the Prospect Park Board of Education. Sworn in as a board member in 2022 and elevated to the presidency in 2024, Arwa has been recognized for her integrity-driven leadership and commitment to meaningful community engagement. Arwa’s career in education spans over a decade, beginning with volunteer teaching of Arabic and Islamic studies at her local mosque and community centers. She has since taught fifth grade in private schools, earned substitute teaching certification, and is pursuing additional credentialing through William Paterson University of New Jersey, where she is completing a Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a minor in Political Science. Her background in both science and public service informs her thoughtful, analytical approach to education policy, student advocacy, and school board leadership.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the influence and support of the important people in my life—my late grandmother, my parents, and my neighbor—who have inspired, guided, and encouraged me along the way.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is that it’s okay if things don’t go exactly as planned right away. Being patient and focusing on the positive can make all the difference.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to surround yourself with positive, supportive people and to take calculated risks. I encourage stepping outside your comfort zone, earning opportunities through dedicated effort, and cultivating allies who will champion your growth and credibility.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is gaining respect and recognition regardless of your background. Overcoming biases and proving your capabilities can be difficult, but it also presents an opportunity to demonstrate resilience and establish credibility.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity and honesty. I strive to approach every situation with transparency, ethical decision-making, and a commitment to doing what’s right.
