Her Story
About Ashlee
Ashlee Song serves as Manager of the learning and development team at Apple, based in the Bay Area, California. She began her professional journey with a bachelor's degree and teaching credential from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, followed by several years as a professional dancer at Disneyland performing in parades and shows. Song then returned to her hometown to teach second and fourth grade at a local elementary school where she had been a student and where her mother taught for over 40 years. While teaching, she coached at Orange Theory Fitness and pursued a master's degree in educational leadership from St. Mary's in California, which she completed in 2020. Around the time of her graduation, she received both Teacher of the Year recognition and a pink slip due to budget constraints affecting non-tenured staff. Song transitioned to Apple after connecting on LinkedIn, first joining the World Flight Education team before moving to hardware to help establish and now manage the learning and development team. She is a member of Forbes BLK, the AI Snack Club for women, and local book clubs. Song credits her career progression to never disqualifying herself based on her background and to building genuine networks before needing assistance.

01What do you attribute your success to?
Never disqualify yourself based off of what your experience is and your background. If you can make your story make sense to you, you can help it make sense to other people. Networking with people before you need it has really carried me through. There's a real power in extending your network and meeting individuals without needing anything from the conversation.
