Ashley Myers Arnold
I’ve spent nearly two decades in Trade Compliance, building a career I didn’t plan, but fully claimed. I started as a receptionist at a Customs brokerage business, where a mentor recognized my attention to detail and pushed me beyond the role I was hired for. From there, I worked my way up - learning every layer of the business and developing a deep understanding of global trade from the ground level.
That foundation became my advantage.
Today, I’m the founder of JEM Consulting & Coaching, where I advise companies on Customs strategy, regulatory risk, and compliance optimization. I operate at the intersection of technical expertise and real-world execution by helping clients navigate complexity, mitigate risk, and make informed trade decisions in an ever-evolving regulatory environment.
In parallel, I coach professionals in trade, logistics, and operations on how to position themselves for growth. From resume strategy to LinkedIn positioning to interview performance, I help clients translate their experience into opportunity, often before they realize their own leverage.
Trade Compliance is a niche field with limited visibility and even fewer mentors. I’ve made it a priority to change that. I’m intentional about sharing knowledge, building access, and helping others accelerate their careers in this lucrative field with clarity and confidence.

What do you attribute your success to?
Consistency and resilience. I didn’t follow a traditional path. I built one.
I’ve also been intentional about how I move within the industry. Trade Compliance offers more flexibility than people realize, and being willing to pivot - and think beyond defined roles - created opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise.
Just as important has been my network. The right people don’t just open doors. They remind you that you belong in the room. That belief, especially early on, made a lasting impact.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Build relationships before you need them and find mentors who give you more than theory.
The best advice I’ve received came with action behind it. Not just “what” to do, but “how” to do it. That level of guidance is what accelerates growth, and it’s something I now prioritize when working with others.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be intentional about your direction. This industry has range but without a plan, it’s easy to get pulled into roles that don’t align with your goals.
Ask questions, stay curious, and surround yourself with people who are doing what you want to do. Proximity matters.
And most importantly, don’t wait until you feel “ready.” You likely already are.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Trade Compliance and Supply Chain have historically been male-dominated, and while that’s evolving, perception still lags behind reality.
Women are often labeled as “too much” when they’re simply confident and informed. The opportunity is in reframing that and owning your expertise without dilution.
You don’t need to shrink to be effective. You need to be clear, informed, and unapologetic about the value you bring.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, loyalty, and perspective.
I believe in doing the right thing, even when it’s not the easiest option. I also believe in showing up consistently for the people who trust me. At the same time, I try to lead with awareness. People are navigating more than what we see, and a little grace goes a long way.
