Her Story

About Ashley

Ashley Borges is a senior Business Analytics student at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, where she began her studies in 2023 and is completing a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Analytics. Initially interested in finance and accounting, she discovered a stronger passion for analytics and its ability to transform data into meaningful business decisions. She will graduate in December 2026 and has been accepted into UAH’s MBA program, where she plans to continue developing her skills in analytics, strategy, and leadership. Professionally, Borges has gained experience across government, defense, data science, and business operations. As a Program Analyst Intern with the U.S. Army Garrison Directorate of Public Works at Redstone Arsenal, she has supported operational and organizational initiatives while developing data-driven tools and process improvements. Previously, as a Data Science Intern with Gray Analytics, she explored applications of analytics, automation, business intelligence, and secure artificial intelligence within the defense industry. Her experiences have strengthened her ability to bridge technical solutions with real business and organizational needs. Beyond her professional roles, Borges has intentionally pursued opportunities that expand her experience in leadership, communication, entrepreneurship, and community engagement. She is an executive member of UAH’s Supply Chain and Analytics Society, has worked independently in freelance social media management, and remains actively involved in organizations and initiatives beyond the classroom. She was selected as a first-generation student speaker at UAH, completed the City of Huntsville’s Civic Engagement Academy, participated in the SetFire Foundation mentorship program, and earned third place in Boeing’s 24-hour Innovation Challenge. Her academic achievements include recognition on the President’s List, reflecting the same commitment to growth that she brings to her professional and extracurricular pursuits. Whether working with data, leading a student organization, developing creative strategy, or engaging with her community, Borges is drawn to opportunities that challenge her to step outside of her comfort zone and develop new capabilities. Borges is motivated by community, innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement. She attributes much of her drive to the sacrifices and support of her family and strives to honor their efforts by pursuing opportunities that allow her to grow while creating meaningful impact for others. As she transitions from her undergraduate studies into her MBA and professional career, she hopes to build a future at the intersection of analytics, strategy, and leadership, with the long-term goal of leading organizations and eventually building ventures of her own.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Ashley

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute much of my success to the sacrifices and support of my family. As a first-generation college student, I recognize that they have made significant sacrifices to help me reach where I am today, and that has always motivated me to work hard and make the most of every opportunity. I want to honor their support by continuing to grow, achieve my goals, and build a life that makes them proud. Their belief in me reminds me that their sacrifices were meaningful and inspires me to keep moving forward with purpose and determination.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received came from a teacher I had in fifth grade who made a lasting impact on me. He taught us that we can accomplish anything we set our minds to, and I have carried that lesson with me throughout my entire life. It has given me the confidence to pursue my goals, overcome challenges, and believe in my ability to achieve whatever I put my effort and determination toward.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to invest in their personal growth and professional development while remaining open to learning and new opportunities. I believe in building strong academic and career foundations, developing valuable skills, and seeking mentors who can provide guidance and encouragement along the way. Through my involvement with the Setfire Foundation’s Sparks Mentorship Program and the American Business Women's Association, I have seen the value of mentorship in helping young women build confidence, pursue their goals, and prepare for long-term success.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest opportunities in my field are in combining business analytics, marketing, and leadership to make informed decisions and effectively manage organizations. I am focused on continuing to develop my expertise, pursue my Master of Business degree, and gain the experience needed to take on greater leadership responsibilities. Ultimately, my goal is to use these skills to build and manage a successful business of my own, while continuing to grow professionally and create meaningful opportunities for the future.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are community, innovation, and creativity. I believe that when people build a strong sense of community, both in the workplace and in their personal lives, they can accomplish much more by sharing their individual strengths, knowledge, and resources. I value collaboration and creating an environment where people can support one another, learn from each other, and grow together. I also value innovation and creativity because they encourage new ideas, fresh perspectives, and meaningful solutions to challenges.
