With 16 years of experience in healthcare marketing, she brings a journalism background to her work, having earned a degree from the University of Alabama and worked as a reporter for several years prior to entering the marketing field. Boyd's notable professional experience includes her time at Livongo, one of the early digital diabetes companies, where she helped build a new category narrative and supported the company's journey to a successful IPO by generating interest among investors, patients, and providers. She attributes her success to her discipline, drive, and ambition, always seeking to accomplish more each day. Boyd values compassion, empathy, honesty, and transparency in both her professional and personal interactions, and she advises professionals to never say no to new opportunities while continuously learning, especially amid advancements like AI. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I think if you ask anyone that I've worked with, I'm a hard worker, I'm very disciplined. I'm very driven and committed. I've got this insatiable drive. I'm ambitious. There's a lot I want to accomplish each and every day, and the to-do list almost never gets done, but I'm very ambitious in creating it. I'm very driven, ambitious. What can I do today that I didn't do yesterday? How can I push things further? The ambition has really kind of fueled me.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never say no. Always be willing to learn and try new things. That's so important, especially in today's day and age with AI and all these advancements in technology. Always be learning. Don't say no, always be willing to take on new roles, responsibilities, even if you're not the expert. The more you learn, the more you do, the stronger and more competent you get as a professional.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
It's okay to not be an expert. As women, we are expected to do it all. Just be willing to learn, just be willing to show up. You don't have to be the expert. Sometimes it's better to be early. The more you learn, the more you try new things, the more experience you can become. Stay humble, stay focused, stay compassionate. Good things will come to those who put in the time and the work. Stay interested in really working to be not only a better person but a better professional.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
AI in marketing is both a challenge and opportunity. We have this new superpower which is AI. Technology helps us do our job faster. The role of marketing communications still requires the human element. Advancements in how we use technology are important from a quality perspective. Stay focused on quality. Ensure people understand the value and function of marketing and that it's not something that can be replaced by AI. Learn how to use AI to demonstrate value while still maintaining the highest level of quality.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Compassion and empathy are so important, both personally and professionally. Honesty, transparency, that's also really important. Are you trustworthy? Are you someone who has compassion and empathy for a pain point or a problem that our customers are facing? When you bring that warmth and understanding to the table, it's a game changer, not only for your customers, but also your team, your people that are working together to solve a problem.
