Her Story

About Ashley

I wear so many hats in my professional life. In my regular 9-to-5 job, I oversee a team of 34 individuals at a hospital, making sure that policies and procedures are followed and we stay within our abandonment rate as far as calls are concerned. I've been in hospital management for over 10 years. As a plus-size model, I've been working on and off for about 15 years, doing photoshoots and fashion shows. My focus is on making sure that people see the good in themselves. I've also been dabbling in the acting field for about 3 to 4 years now, taking on small roles with maybe a few lines. As a First Lady in my church, where my husband has been the pastor for 3 years (though he's been a pastor for over 20 years), I focus on helping others and being there for people in need. In all my roles, whether as a manager, First Lady, or plus model, people's eyes are always on me, so I work to encourage and uplift other people and be a role model to them.

Ten minutes with Ashley

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say my family foundation. My mom and dad have always supported me, and my husband is my biggest supporter. The love and support that I've received from my family is everything. They support me and come to all my fashion shows. If I'm in a play, they come to all my plays. So the support that I have from my family is definitely my foundation.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I would say just don't give up on yourself. Sometimes people may not see your value or your worth, but just don't give up on yourself, and always push yourself to the limit to do more.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say don't give in to the industry standards. Social media can be a good thing and a bad thing, so I would just say don't give in to industry standards. Be authentically who you are.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

In the healthcare field that I'm in professionally, I would say just with the way that the economy is today, people are not having the right healthcare, or not having enough healthcare, or not having healthcare at all. In the acting world, I probably would say just not knowing the right people. It's difficult to get to know people in the industry. Especially with AI, you just never know if you're submitting things virtually. You just really never know. I was actually kind of skeptical to even audition or submit for this, because you just never know what you're submitting for these days.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I would say honesty and just self-empowerment, and just being your best self, being your true self every single day.
