Her Story
About Ashley
Ashley George is a Certified Medical Assistant based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with extensive experience in patient care, chronic disease management, and healthcare coordination. Since beginning her career in healthcare in 2018, she has built a strong foundation in clinical support roles, with a focus on geriatric care and long-term management of chronic conditions such as cardiac disease and chronic kidney disease. She is known for her commitment to patient education, preventive care, and helping individuals navigate complex healthcare systems to close gaps in care.
Ashley currently serves as a Patient Engagement Specialist at Karoo Health, where she supports the enrollment of patients into chronic care management programs within a cardiac clinic setting. In this role, she works closely with cardiologists to identify eligible patients, conduct medical history reviews, provide education, and coordinate follow-up care. Her prior experience includes roles as a Patient Education Consultant, Enrollment Coordinator, Care Navigator, and Medical Assistant, where she gained valuable expertise in in-home primary care, healthcare operations, and population health management. Notably, she was promoted within six months to Lead Medical Assistant at a startup organization, overseeing operations across Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and New Orleans.
Ashley is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Health Science degree at Herzing University in New Orleans, with an expected completion date of August 2027. A graduate of Virginia College–Baton Rouge, where she completed her Certified Clinical Medical Assistant training, she continues to expand her professional expertise with a long-term interest in healthcare compliance and systems improvement. Throughout her career, she has emphasized compassion, persistence, and continuous learning, while also recognizing the importance of ensuring healthcare professionals enter the field with a strong sense of empathy and purpose.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my drive to be helpful and desire to leave an impact on each life I encounter.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Keep going, no matter what you do keep going because there is so much opportunity and you can achieve it it all if you never give up.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to remember that the sky is truly the limit. The boundaries of your success are often the ones you set for yourself. If you remain diligent, focused, and persistent, you can achieve any goal you set, regardless of where you begin. Your starting point does not define your future—what matters most is your determination, resilience, and how you finish the journey.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in my field is individuals entering healthcare for the wrong reasons and lacking compassion, which can impact the quality of care. However, there are strong opportunities with the growth of new certifications and expanding roles in areas such as AI, compliance, IT, and HR within healthcare, all of which are driving innovation and improving outcomes.
