Her Story

About Ashley

Ashley Meiss is a stylist in the field of image consulting. She graduated college with a journalism degree, driven by her love of people and interest in the psychology of humans. Prior to her current role, she sold software for a number of technology companies for over a decade, working in a male-driven environment. In September she will mark three years in her styling career, which she entered after an opportunity presented itself and quickly took off. Ashley draws on her sales background and genuine curiosity about people to help clients through closet edits and wardrobe transformations that often involve deeper inner work. She is active in the Seattle Art Museum supporters and does extensive work mentoring people in recovery from addiction. Ashley attributes her success to resilience, learning from disappointments and mistakes, understanding others' experiences, and spotting patterns to improve her approach. Her advice to young professionals emphasizes listening as a key skill, being kind, making people feel important, and maintaining a strong sense of self to hold space for others.

Ten minutes with Ashley

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to resilience. There's been a lot of disappointments and moments where I've been wrong in this business, but it's about learning from your experience, trying to understand other people's experience, holding space for the right to be wrong, and then also learning from those things. I think we keep getting lessons until we learn them, and I'm pretty good at spotting the patterns so that I can shift my sales in a way that makes things better for myself and everyone around me.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

It's really important to listen to the person that's in front of you. Listening is an amazing skill. People trust you based on how you move through the world, and everybody just wants to feel connection. The opportunity is endless if you are kind and you listen and you make people feel important. Having a sense of who you are so that you can hold space for other people.
