Her Interview
Ten minutes with Ashley
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my parents, whose unwavering support and commitment to education gave my sister and me a strong foundation. I recognize the privilege of attending private schools and receiving quality education, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunities and encouragement my parents provided throughout my journey.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to build a strong professional network, take advantage of available resources, and recognize the value of the people I meet along the way. At Colby, networking is strongly emphasized, and I recently participated in a school-sponsored trip to New York to connect with professionals and expand my network. I have also learned that no career path is linear, so it is important to remain open to opportunities, embrace new experiences, and adapt as I grow professionally.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the arts industry is to dream big, pursue their passions, and never limit themselves based on what others think is possible. Being an artist can be challenging, but if you love creating and find joy in your work, keep going and believe in your abilities. Never let anyone discourage you from following your dreams or expressing your creativity.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the arts today is the growing acceptance of AI as part of the creative industry. At the same time, there are many galleries and creative spaces that need support and opportunities for growth. I believe in being open to helping wherever I can and contributing to the arts community in meaningful ways.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are honesty, integrity, respect, and community. In my artistic practice, I prioritize giving proper credit to my sources, respecting others' work, and maintaining transparency. I also deeply value collaboration and believe that building a supportive community is essential to both personal growth and creative success.
