Her Story

About Ashlie

I graduated in 2013 with an accounting degree while already married with my first daughter. Public accounting wasn't for me because I didn't want to be away from home that much, so I took the private route. I started in AP at NPL construction company where I got exposure to certified Davis-Bacon payrolls. That led to payroll work at a temporary staffing agency for construction workers, then to Knight Construction where I started doing payroll and became assistant controller. While there, I helped with ERP implementation, which led me to help other manufacturing companies implement ERP systems to support their growth. Currently, I'm helping a company downgrade from NetSuite to QuickBooks since the software is too expensive and complex for their size. My goal is to become CFO as the current leader plans to retire.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Ashlie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I always want to do better for my family, for myself, and for everybody around me. People are my thing, and anything I can do to uplift people is really important to me. I'm always the biggest advocate for my employees.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

It's super important for young people to learn accounting and finance, even if they don't go into accounting. Knowledge of how the world works financially is crucial. I think all kids should be learning accounting maybe in high school because it's hard to understand student loans and what payments will mean for them.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Family and happiness for everybody. Everything I do, I try to encompass that. It's important to understand your employees, friends, and family and just be there for them because they're there for you too.
