Her Story

About Ashlynn

Ashlynn Griewahn has spent the last eight years working in STEM, initially in electrical engineering and now pursuing studies in biology. She entered the military with only a high school diploma and completed nearly a year of specialized job training, advancing through promotions, certifications, and licenses. Although no longer on active duty, she remains in the reserves. Ashlynn is currently enrolled at Jackson College pursuing an Associate of Science degree, with plans to transfer to the University of Michigan for a bachelor's in biology, ideally microbiology, and she hopes to work with mycology and study mushrooms.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Never forget where you came from, or why you started.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Working with STEM can be intimidating especially without a predisposed background like having family in engineering or trades. I didn't have that so it was very intimidating and scary, especially as a woman in the military surrounded by men. But remember where you came from and why you started this journey. Work with the cards you've been dealt. Don't complain that your plate is full, just eat it. You get out of it what you put into it.
