Her work has included engagements with HRSA under NIH and USAID, and she currently supports a critical FDA project involving the Application Automated Laboratory Information System that improves laboratory efficiency by 55 percent. This effort earned the Most Disruptive Technology Award along with ORA group awards and FDA internal awards. Balasubramanian holds a Master's in Information Systems Technology and is a member of PMI. Outside her professional role, she coaches her son's robotics team and encourages girls to engage in STEM fields at an early age. She credits her success to her determination not to give up, especially after arriving in the United States on a student visa, along with the moral support of her family and friends. The best career advice she has received is to listen actively in order to notice reactions and read between the lines during meetings.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Aswini

01What do you attribute your success to?

My strong will not to give up, especially coming here as a student on a student visa, and the support from my family and friends who have been a huge moral support.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is to listen actively. Listening actively is a very powerful skill; when you pay close attention, you notice people's reactions and read between the lines to figure out more information than what people are actually saying in meetings.
