Audra Bauer is the Owner and Product Strategy Consultant of Audra Bauer Technical Consulting LLC, a consulting practice she launched in December 2023 following a restructuring at Ciena, where she had served in program management. Bringing more than two decades of experience in the technology industry, Audra has built a distinguished career focused on product management, strategic planning, program leadership, customer experience, marketing, and stakeholder relationship management. Throughout her career with organizations including Cisco and Ciena, she has led complex initiatives, supported successful product and service launches, strengthened organizational processes, and brought cross-functional teams together to develop solutions aligned with business objectives and evolving market demands. Her combination of strategic vision, operational discipline, and industry knowledge allows her to approach complex business challenges with both a broad perspective and attention to detail.
Through Audra Bauer Technical Consulting LLC, Audra works directly with organizations and business leaders to understand their priorities, identify opportunities for improvement, and establish the operational structure necessary to turn strategy into execution. She evaluates client needs and develops customized resources such as strategic roadmaps, checklists, runbooks, playbooks, marketing resources, and 30-, 60-, and 90-day action plans. Her consulting approach is designed to provide clients with greater clarity, accountability, and direction while creating practical frameworks they can use to achieve their goals. Drawing on her extensive experience in product strategy and program management, Audra helps clients strengthen their processes, improve collaboration, enhance their market positioning, and create more effective pathways for sustainable growth.
Audra holds a B.A. in Political Science and Administrative Studies from the University of California, Riverside. She attributes much of her success to the professional network and mentors who have supported and challenged her throughout her career, particularly those who encouraged her to push beyond her perceived limitations and recognize her full potential. She believes that continuous growth comes from embracing challenges, listening to others, and remaining open to learning. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the strong network of mentors, colleagues, and professionals who have supported me, challenged me, and encouraged me to reach beyond what I believed was possible. Throughout my career, I have encountered leaders who pushed me well outside my comfort zone and held me to high standards. While I did not always appreciate those challenges at the time, I now recognize that they helped me understand my capabilities, strengthen my resilience, and discover my potential. I am grateful for those experiences because they have shaped me into a stronger professional, a more confident leader, and a better person.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to listen more and speak less. Early in my career, this advice taught me the importance of being intentional about listening, learning from others, and fully understanding different perspectives before responding. It has helped me become a more thoughtful communicator, make better-informed decisions, and build stronger professional relationships.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the technology industry is to make sure your voice is heard and your ideas are recognized, particularly when working in traditionally male-dominated environments. Be intentional about defining your career goals early and seek opportunities to make a meaningful impact within your field. Develop confidence, resilience, and the ability to accept constructive criticism without allowing it to diminish your sense of purpose. Most importantly, recognize that success is not achieved alone. Build strong relationships, collaborate with others, and be willing to learn from those around you as you grow and advance in your career.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge and opportunity in my field right now is the rapid impact of artificial intelligence on business and consulting. AI is changing how organizations approach problem-solving and access insights, including areas where consultants have traditionally provided hands-on guidance. While this is reshaping the consulting landscape, I also see significant opportunities to use AI as a tool to work more efficiently, enhance the quality of my services, and deliver greater value to clients. I believe the key is to adapt to these changes while continuing to provide the strategic insight, experience, and human perspective that technology cannot replace.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, kindness, and collaboration are the values that matter most to me in both my personal and professional life. I believe in being honest and transparent with my family, friends, colleagues, and clients while always communicating with empathy and kindness. I also value collaboration because I believe the strongest outcomes are achieved when people work together, share perspectives, and support one another. These principles guide how I build relationships, approach challenges, and contribute to the success of those around me.
