Her Story

About Audrey

My professional journey began when I saw motorcycles in my mom's garage and wanted to fix them for her. This passion led me to trade school where I learned to be a mechanic. After completing my training, I started doing independent work and also worked at a dealership as a Service Advisor. I've been in the industry for about one year now. I'm the only one in my family who owns their own business, which I'm really proud of. Currently, I'm balancing multiple ventures - my motorcycle mechanic work, a clothing business that I'm building to empower women in the trades, and my athletic career competing for the U.S. in skiercross. I'm also pursuing a business administration degree at the University of Utah, where I'm taking advantage of resources like meeting with entrepreneurial professors and learning marketing and entrepreneurship skills. My day typically involves going to school, setting goals for my businesses, working on my clothing designs, athletic training for about 5 hours, and then spending 3 to 4 hours working on motorcycles when my schedule allows. In the winter, my motorcycle work is more limited due to my athletic schedule, but I stay focused on building my brand and creating solutions to problems through my various business ventures.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Audrey

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute a lot of my success to finding an outlet through sports when I was younger, which helped me get through hard times in my life. Through sports, I became really competitive and learned how to have good teamwork and discipline. I think those qualities help me stay motivated through what I want to do with my career, and I try to do the same thing with my business ventures that I did through my sports career. The competitive drive and discipline I developed as an athlete have been essential to managing my multiple businesses, my education, and my athletic training all at the same time.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've ever received is that no problem is too hard to figure out. You can always figure something out if you keep working at it. This mindset has been really important to me because it keeps me from giving up when things get challenging, whether it's in my business ventures, my athletic training, or my academic work. It reminds me that persistence and continued effort will lead to solutions.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of my biggest opportunities right now is being able to create a better brand for myself, especially because I'm competing for the U.S. in skiercross, which helps me market and get my name out there. This visibility really helps with building my brand. However, my biggest challenge is that I have a lot of great business ideas that I'm working on and multiple things I'm passionate about, so I feel like I'm spreading myself a little thin sometimes. It's hard for me to fully focus on one thing all the time because I have multiple things that I want to achieve and create businesses for. I'm also working on creating a brand image that works hand-in-hand with who I am as an athlete, but also reflects that I'm more than that - I have other goals I want to achieve in life beyond athletics.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important value to me is being able to give back to my communities and empower women. With my clothing business, one of my main goals is empowering women to be able to be confident working in the trades and feel like there's a space for them. My mom used to say to me that strong women build strong women, and that's become a big motto of mine. I really believe in creating opportunities and support for other women, especially in male-dominated fields like the trades, and that drives a lot of what I do in my work and personal life.
