Her Story

About Audrey

Audrey Carlson serves as Head of Operations at an advertising agency, a role she has held for nearly four years. With almost 20 years in the advertising industry, she supports the agency's main New York City office through project management, resource allocation, financial oversight, client health monitoring, and leadership coordination across departments. Her career began after earning a BA in telecommunications from Ball State University, followed by early work at The Late Show with David Letterman and various reality TV productions in New York City, before transitioning into project management at multiple agencies where she also supported change management during acquisitions. She is known for her solution-oriented approach, advising others to always come prepared with a solve when addressing challenges. Audrey values loyalty, honesty, and hope in both her professional and personal life, and she attributes her success to her strong work ethic, ambition, faith, and supportive family including her parents and husband. She emphasizes maintaining the human element amid industry changes such as the rise of AI, focusing on client needs while harnessing technology as a tool rather than a replacement for creativity and interpersonal connections.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Audrey

01What do you attribute your success to?

I've always been a really hard worker, and I've always prided myself in my ability to be ambitious and see what's next, but not without God and my parents and my wonderful husband. I have an incredible support system within my life, and wonderful friends, and so it's a great combination of strong women, strong faith, strong family support.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Always come with a solve. Always come with a way to work through something. It has guided me in my process of how I work with different people, departments, or brands. There's always going to be something 3-6 months down the road, but if you're prepared and solution-oriented, those things don't become a big deal because you're thinking 2-3-5 steps ahead.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The industry is changing and trying to keep people focused on the real need of our clients versus the noise around AI. Finding its way into almost every need, trying to stay ahead of the curve and still bring the human element. Harnessing AI as a tool without letting it overtake creativity or processes. In operations, you can automate a lot but the people metric, intentional time with each other, you can't substitute AI for that.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I'm a pretty loyal person, not blind loyalty but people that stick with you through everything, the good, the bad, the sideways. I'm a pretty honest person too. I love feedback. Being able to face whatever you need to with an honest take on it is key. And being hopeful. Optimism can be forced sometimes but hope is innate. There's always more, with a little bit of joy behind that.
