About Ava
Ava Richardson is currently enrolled at the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeking an associate's degree in paralegal studies after attending Prince George's Community College (PGCC), where she was unable to complete a required math class. She plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in paralegal studies in the spring. Beyond her academic pursuits, Ava has been deeply engaged in community service for decades. She has served over 20 years on the PPA Executive Board, recently rejoined the PTA with aspirations for a national nominating committee role, and held positions including president, secretary, and chair of programs in the PTSA, where she organized televised Black History Month celebrations. As SGA Senator for Public Relations at PGCC, she connected with influential figures. She advocates for hybrid meetings in her apartment's Residence Council to support seniors and those with mobility challenges. Earlier, in the 1980s, she worked with the Girl Scout Council of the Nations, supporting community events and leaders. Ava attributes her drive and commitment to community service to her Christian faith, shaped by a neighbor who introduced her to Jesus at age six and her grandmother, an evangelist.

Ten minutes with Ava
01What do you attribute your success to?
My faith in God and Jesus has pushed me since childhood. A neighbor introduced me to Jesus when I was 6, took me to church, Bible study, and Vacation Bible School. My grandmother was an evangelist, and this spiritual background influenced my community service.
