Her Story
About Avalon
Avalon Sutherland is a pastry professional with about 20 years in the baking and food industry. She began baking in high school after being inspired by her mother's homemade birthday cakes and enrolled in Sullivan University's Baking & Pastry program as a Junior. She dove into college just two weeks after high school graduation. Sutherland recently began working as Pastry Lead at Haymarket's Commissary Bakeshop in Louisville, Kentucky. Her prior employment was 10 years dedicated to a local production Bakery that was nationally recognized and awarded, and developed two of the top three selling treats. She attributes her drive to growing up without an abundant income and seeing her parents' resiliency, which led her to work two jobs in her 20's to learn from a top wedding cake business and even complete 7 weddings in one summer from her home. Sutherland supports community efforts including the Center for Women and Families and Kentucky Refugee Ministries.
