Her Interview
Ten minutes with Aviana
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would have to say my faith. I mean, that's kind of been my guiding pillar through everything.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My mom told me during freshman year when I was struggling with psychology major: you're a really good writer, think about what you're naturally good at that's not gonna stretch you and make you miserable. That planted the seed to switch to journalism.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
There's a divide among people making it hard for journalists to show the full truth because people only want to hear one side. There's pressure from organizations to report one way only, but integrity requires telling the fullness of the truth.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My faith is really valuable to me. I also value my family and my friends, and my guinea pigs.
