Her Interview
Ten minutes with Ayushi
01What do you attribute your success to?
I credit my success to my hard work and not being too lazy about my career. I wouldn't like to be stuck in one bubble as an architect. I always want to learn more, achieve more, and go out of my comfort zone to learn new trends in the industry rather than being stuck in one position without learning.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received is that whenever starting your career in any position, focus more on learning in the initial 6 months rather than performing and showing people you know everything. Learn each and every single detailing of the work so that in the future, wherever you are put, you can do everything properly and have your basics strong.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be a lazy person. Make your network as much as possible, go to career events, talk with people, go out of your network. Be true about yourself and be very sure what role you are passionate about. Have one or two roles set for yourself that you are targeting. Make good connections with your managers and learn as much as you can from them.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is communication because we work with so many different types of people. Field people sometimes unable to read drawings, different concerns from mechanical and electrical teams. Bringing everyone on one platform in critical situations is tough. Also dealing with clients who have their own rules and schedules.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In construction, the most important values are integrity, accountability, and communication. Wrong communication can lead to rework or even lawsuits. We can't make assumptions. Be honest with the trades, have an environment where team members are honest about situations or delays, and everyone should be informed.
