About Azalea
Azalea Jack is a licensed acupuncturist and certified community health worker who has been active in her field since 2003. She earned a master's in science with a focus on acupuncture after initially considering other health professions following a car accident in college. Jack is affiliated with NYU Langone for community outreach and specializes in treating cancer patients with acupuncture to mitigate chemotherapy side effects. She is also a certified community health worker who helps patients navigate health insurance, appointments, and support services. In addition to her clinical work, Jack volunteers with AmeriCorps providing peer support and tutoring elementary school children. She advocates for increasing health literacy in the community and draws on her own experience as a patient with MS to inform her patient-centered approach. Jack attributes her success to treating every patient as she would want her own family treated and advises young women entering the field to recognize their accomplishments, seek mentors, stay open to new directions, and continuously evolve.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Azalea
01What do you attribute your success to?
Being a patient first. I don't want everyone to be treated like I want my family treated. For me that's been my key thing.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
It's lonely at the front of the line. So often it's very challenging especially when you're first beginning it's very intimidating. And it's important to be proud of who you are recognize your accomplishments that got you to where you are. And you're there because you're qualified you're there because you fought to be there. Encourage others to seek some a mentor to stay hungry open to new direction and always be looking to evolve always look to retool.
