Her Story
About Azeezat
I've been working in my field for over 18 years, and my journey started in an unexpected way. I used to hire someone to do my African headgear for special occasions, but this person was so rude and had no customer service skills. I told myself I could do better, and when someone from my country came to have a child here and offered to teach me, I learned for two weeks and the rest was history. I took classes here and there, even online, to keep improving. Now I design African attire and headgear, and by the grace of God, I've styled Queen Beyonce, the number one in the whole world, with my design. I'm also a makeup artist, an ambassador to art and culture, and I style celebrities and cultural people for their traditional occasions. Beyond design, I'm a hospice nurse taking care of elderly clients, which is a calling for me and something I have so much passion for. I'm an influencer helping people market their products and do branding, an events blogger covering birthdays and special occasions, and a speaker who loves to inspire people, especially kids with talent, to come out of their shell. I've won over 26 awards in this work and received a certificate award from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. I attend the BET Awards every year for at least six years straight, dressed in my African attire with my headgear, doing red carpet appearances. What I do is showcase our heritage through dressing, food, and everything you can imagine. I tell our story myself and put smiles on people's faces through my art work. People tell me I have everything in my portfolio, and I just need one person to blow it all up for the world to see what I've achieved.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Azeezat
01What do you attribute your success to?
I'm a very hard-working person and a go-getter. I'm a mother of three, and I work so hard for achievement in everything I do. I'm a designer, a hospice nurse, an influencer, and more. I just don't give up, and I'm proud of myself for being someone who works hard to achieve my goals. Everything I've accomplished is because I put in the effort and never stop pushing forward.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I always tell people one thing that has really helped me a lot. Number one, when you're getting into anything, make sure you love what you do. Because when you love what you do, and that thing is not yielding at the time that you started, you will keep on trying because you love it, you will never give up. That's number one. Then number two, I always tell people that you should always be humble. When you're humble, it takes you places, and that has always helped me. When you are humble, it gives you everything you want. Humbleness is very good. And always learn to appreciate. Another thing that I always do and has always helped me with my career is I take corrections, and I love people to criticize what I do, so that it can improve whatever thing I do. So those are the things I'm gonna tell and advice.
