What do you attribute your success to?
My journey has been anything but linear, but it’s one I’m deeply proud of, rooted in storytelling, strategy, and a drive to make an impact in an ever-changing field. I built my foundation in journalism, spending late nights in the newsroom and interning at local TV stations, where I discovered a passion for people’s stories. That curiosity eventually took me to the Ohio State House, where I learned the power of communication on a broader scale and also that 2 a.m. start times weren’t for me. I realized I wanted a career that balanced purpose with personal well-being, which led me to marketing. Today, as a marketing professional with Yes Creative Marketing, I use those same storytelling instincts to help family-owned healthcare practices modernize their marketing while staying true to their roots. Coming from a family in healthcare, it felt like a full circle moment when my career in marketing brought me back to the field through my clients. One of my proudest moments was organizing and presenting the Healthcare Worker of the Year awards with the Ohio Hospital Association during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, a reminder of why I do what I do. Along the way, I’ve learned that internships, networking, and professional development aren’t just resume builders but the foundation of lasting growth. My volunteer work with CrowdBoard Pro Impact and earning a PRSA award for a campaign I led both reinforced that persistence, purpose, and connection are the true cornerstones of success.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to believe in your own voice and back it up with curiosity and action. Confidence doesn’t come from knowing everything; it comes from being willing to learn, ask questions, and show up even when you’re unsure. Internships and networking were some of the most valuable parts of my early journey, working in newsrooms, shadowing reporters, and interning at TV stations taught me adaptability, communication, and the importance of building genuine relationships. Don’t hesitate to reach out to people you admire; some of my biggest breakthroughs came simply from sending a message or asking for guidance. Remember, success in this field thrives on connection, not competition. And above all, don’t shy away from opportunities that scare you a little, because growth almost always happens just outside your comfort zone.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in marketing right now is the rise of artificial intelligence, especially in search and content creation. AI is reshaping how we work, and while it presents challenges, it also opens up exciting possibilities for innovation and efficiency. I believe technology should enhance, not replace, the human touch that makes great storytelling so powerful. The key is to use AI strategically leveraging its capabilities to streamline processes and uncover insights while still relying on human creativity, empathy, and intuition to connect with audiences in meaningful ways.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
At the heart of everything I do, whether it’s crafting a healthcare campaign or mentoring a new professional, my guiding values are kindness, purpose, integrity, and empathy. These values keep me grounded, even when the industry or the world feels unpredictable. I believe in always putting my best foot forward, being understanding, and taking time to learn each client’s philosophy. Some of my clients have never had websites and rely solely on word of mouth, while others are more traditional in their approach. I meet them where they are by listening, understanding their concerns, and finding solutions that truly serve their goals. Doing right by people is nonnegotiable for me; if a strategy like Google Ads isn’t working for a client, I won’t keep pushing it just because it’s financially beneficial. I look for another route that ensures their success. Purpose reminds me why I do this work because marketing, especially in healthcare, is about connection, not just promotion. Every message has the potential to impact real people, and when you focus on helping others feel seen and understood, the results follow naturally. Integrity means doing what’s right even when no one’s watching, and I’ve built my career on transparency, honesty, and mutual respect. And empathy, perhaps my strongest value, shapes every part of my work from listening to a client’s challenges to supporting a teammate or telling a story that matters. These values, instilled in me early on by my family and mentors, continue to guide my leadership, creativity, and definition of success.
