Her Story

About Bailey

I started in wellness in 2017, and I've been building community through movement ever since. I played a lot of sports in high school and college, and working out was always a way for me to connect with people. I started StrongHER Collective DMV in 2020, right around COVID, as a way to connect people - you can motivate each other while you're working out, and everybody loves the benefits. There's not gonna be a bad workout ever, because you're always gonna feel better afterwards. Even if you don't feel like it, it's a stress reliever with so many benefits. I'm originally from Texas and moved to the DMV in 2023. After graduating from Pennsylvania State University in 2021, I lived in New York for a year working with a fellowship at Sun River Health, a federally qualified health center. My background is in health policy, and I started working for the National Association of Community Health Centers based in Alexandria, Virginia, which is why I had to move here. Now I'm a current candidate for my Master's in Public Health with a concentration in Nutrition at UNC Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health, graduating in May 2027. What I do is so easy because I'm just being myself - I don't set up my phone and turn on somebody else. This is who I am online and offline. Working out is something that I truly do love, so it doesn't feel like work. I love people, I love community, I work in public health, and so it just comes so effortlessly to me because I truly do enjoy it.

Ten minutes with Bailey

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being myself - that's what's so easy about it. I don't set up my phone and turn on somebody else. This is who I am online and offline. Working out is something that I truly do love, so it doesn't feel like work. I love people, I love community, I work in public health, and so it just comes so effortlessly to me because I truly do enjoy it. Being authentic is what makes this work - the right people will find me, and I don't have to conform to anything that I see online.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've received is to continue to show up authentically as myself, because the right people will find me. I don't have to conform to anything that I see online. If you're gonna do it, be 100%. There are gonna be days when you don't show up or you don't want to show up, and you just have to keep going. I know that seems very simple, but it's so true - you have to keep going, and that's in you keeping up with yourself. If we're in this wellness industry, your body is your product. Not your product, but that's what people look at - if they're looking for a trainer, they're gonna say, do you look like a trainer? It's just really about knowing that you speak for yourself.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell her to show up authentically as herself. If you're gonna do it, be 100%. There are gonna be days when you don't show up or you don't want to show up, and you just have to keep going. I know that seems very simple, but it's so true - you have to keep going, and that's in you keeping up with yourself, because if we're in this wellness industry, your body is your product. I would say just to remember your why, because when I first started out, it was for mental clarity, I wanted to feel great, I wanted to look even better, and it's very easy to get caught in the rabbit hole of, oh, I need to look like this, or this is what's trending right now. And health is not a trend, it's a lifestyle.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is outdoing myself from the last event that I did. I want to give everybody a premium experience, and there's so many choices - Pilates is a buzzword right now, wellness is a buzzword, everybody wants to host these community type of events. So I think the challenge is not necessarily setting my events apart, but making sure people understand this is actually a community and safe space. Because a lot of people will just follow who the influencers are, and not necessarily people who actually have the training.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My first value is being authentic, and that is both in honesty and transparency - that comes down to what is your why of doing this. My second value would be treating people the way you want to be treated in this space, because wellness is for everyone, it's not a body type type of thing. I try to be very inclusive of that. And then it's like, enjoy the moment. I think that would be one of my values - yes, things are serious, but don't forget to enjoy it, because life is so precious. And then the last one, for real, for real, would be consistency, persistency, and determination. You have to have those three, because you're not always going to be motivated by the work you're doing, you're not going to be motivated by the money you're making, you might not be making any money. So that goes back to remembering your why, and being determined, and being like, if I call myself a DMV health coach, I have to show up, even when I don't want to. Even if it's two people in my class, I'm rocking the stage like it's 6,000 people out there.
