Morrisville, NC 27560

Baisakhi Roy Anivilla is a Human Resources Generalist at Spectrum based in Apex, North Carolina, where she supports a dynamic workforce of approximately 120 to 140 employees. In her current role, she manages a broad range of HR responsibilities including leave administration, corrective actions, new hire orientations, and benefits administration. She is known for her strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and commitment to fostering a positive and efficient employee experience.

Her HR journey began unexpectedly in 2004 after completing her Master of Science in Chemistry from Calcutta University in India. She was selected through campus recruitment by the HR Director at Borosil Glassworks Limited, who recognized her natural ability to communicate and her alignment with people-focused work. After working in the scientific division for two years, she moved to the United States in 2006. What followed was a long and challenging period during which visa restrictions prevented her from working for over a decade. During this time, she remained committed to personal and professional growth by continuing her education, earning certifications, and staying engaged in learning while relocating across Maryland, Ohio, and eventually settling in North Carolina during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. She also embraced motherhood during this period, balancing family responsibilities while staying focused on rebuilding her career path.

In 2021, she re-entered the workforce as an HR Specialist at a small IT company, followed by a role as HR Coordinator at Charter Communications in late 2022. Through persistence, continuous learning, and a growth mindset, she advanced into increasingly complex HR responsibilities while consistently striving toward her goal of becoming an HR Generalist. In March 2025, she achieved that milestone promotion and was also recognized as a Spectrum Gold recipient, an honor awarded to the top 2 percent of employees, marking a significant professional achievement in her journey. Today, she continues to grow in her role while supporting employees, contributing to organizational success, and valuing the resilience and experiences that have shaped her career path.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to never giving up and always believing in hard work, even through the most challenging times. When I moved to the U.S. in 2006, my visa didn't allow me to work for almost 13-14 years, and as a hard-working woman, having that hiatus which was not chosen by me was a lot to grasp. But I kept myself motivated to keep learning, doing certifications, and staying ready. I soaked everything like a sponge when I finally got back into the workforce - I absorbed everything I could see so I could be better, always putting myself in the position of not knowing and trying to learn. I kept asking what I needed to do to get to the next level and took constructive feedback seriously. I've always believed in the philosophy that you keep doing your work and things will happen - you don't have to work for awards, your work ethic should speak to that, and things will fall into place. All the hardships I endured over the last 15-17 years, the ups and downs, the patience testing, going through all the usual things that women do and how we have to mold and take care of every situation while staying focused - it all led to this moment. When I received the Spectrum Gold award for being in the top 2% of employees, it felt like a validation that it was the correct time and that I had done my part.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is that I can build a successful career both in India and in America as long as I stay committed to hard work and never give up.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to young women entering this field that we need to stick together and support each other's upliftment within the women community. We have enough pushback from the other side, so we don't need to pull each other down - we can be a little more supportive of each other with a 'you grow, I grow' mentality. I'm very much pro for women in the workforce and believe we can be the best in our own fields when we support one another. Beyond that, my journey has taught me that you have to be willing to work hard and never give up, even when circumstances are completely out of your control. I faced a 13-14 year work hiatus that wasn't my choice, but I kept learning, kept doing certifications, and stayed ready. When you finally get your opportunity, soak everything like a sponge, be ready to ask questions about what you need to do to get to the next level. Your work ethic should speak for itself, and if you stay focused and keep doing your work, things will fall into place.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge and opportunity in my field right now is continuing to grow and learn every day while adapting to constant change and evolving expectations. Being in my role for the past year has reinforced the importance of staying curious, building new skills, and remaining flexible as the industry develops.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important values to me are hard work, never giving up, and being able to make a difference. Throughout my journey, I've learned that you have to keep yourself motivated and focused even when things don't go as planned - like when I faced a 13-14 year work hiatus due to visa restrictions that wasn't my choice. I believe in always learning and staying humble, putting myself in the position of not knowing so I can keep growing. Family is extremely important to me being a mom brings me extreme joy, and even though I went through all the usual things that women do, moulding and taking care of every situation while balancing family and career, I never lost sight of my goals. I had my daughter in 2012, took care of her, then had my second baby in 2022, and nothing stopped me from pursuing my career. In my personal life, I love traveling with my family - something I am grateful to my parents with whom I started traveling to new places, after marriage my husband and I kept that hobby alive and now all four of us absolutely love traveling together. I feel like I become alive when I'm traveling because there's so much in the world that one needs to see in order to become better. You don't get confined to one place and think you're the best - rather, you go into the world and see the differences in everything, but you also find the commonality that we are all human beings. I also strongly believe in women supporting each other in the workforce and giving back to the community, which is why I'm involved with organizations like WICT and DOC NC.
