Dr. Barbara DeGorge is a seasoned higher education specialist, professor, and international consultant with a distinguished career spanning over two decades in academia and institutional leadership. Currently serving as Professor III at Palm Beach State College, she teaches U.S. and World History while contributing to academic innovation and faculty development initiatives. Barbara’s leadership experience includes roles such as Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Director of Institutional Effectiveness. Her expertise in accreditation—across SACS, MSCHE, ABET, and other major agencies—has helped institutions in both the United States and the Middle East establish, develop, and sustain high-quality academic programs.

Beyond administration, Dr. DeGorge is a passionate educator who brings global perspective to the classroom. Fluent in multiple languages and deeply engaged in Middle Eastern and African Studies, she has served as a media commentator for major networks including Fox News and NBC, providing insight into international affairs and cultural dynamics. Her published work includes contributions to scholarly texts such as Muhammad in History, Thought, and Culture and Human Trafficking: Current Controversies.

I attribute my success to my students, as even in retirement I dedicate myself to teaching and providing an excellent education.

The best career advice I’ve ever received is: “You can and you will,” which has guided me to retire, write two books, and return to my greatest passion—teaching.

My advice to young women entering this field is: You can achieve greatness, as I have been recognized with numerous awards and accolades, including features on WPTV, which are also available on YouTube.

The biggest challenge and opportunity in my field right now is being able to make a meaningful difference in each and every student's life.

The most important values in my work and personal life are ensuring that students receive a strong education and the knowledge they need, as I believe education is true power.
