Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the strong foundation and guidance provided by my parents, who were both intelligent and capable. In the 70s, my parents were instrumental in helping to integrate the west side of the town I grew up in and won the NAACP for their work in the community. I think it is important for individuals to believe in their ability to make a difference and to climb out of whatever their difficult circumstances might be, maintaining a belief in themselves and their ability to lead a resilient and productive life.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to truly value yourself, trust in your skills, and have confidence in your resilience. Recognize your worth, embrace challenges as opportunities to grow, and never underestimate the impact you can make by staying committed to your goals and believing in your capabilities.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest opportunity in my field right now lies in partnering with an established publisher like World Publishing Company, which has a long history dating back to 1902 and has the resources to market my books widely. This partnership allows my work to reach a broader audience and gain the visibility it deserves. On the other hand, personal challenges have also profoundly shaped my work. Experiences such as my own early trauma, my daughter's prolonged stalking experience, and other family traumas have informed key themes in my novel, adding depth and authenticity to my storytelling while highlighting the resilience and perseverance required to navigate both life and creative pursuits.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are deeply rooted in the faith with which I was raised. Prayer and nurturing a close relationship with the Holy Spirit guide my decisions, provide strength during challenges, and shape the way I connect with others and approach my work. These spiritual practices, as well as maintaining wellness activities as I age, are central to maintaining balance, purpose, and integrity in everything I do.
