About Barbara

Barb Higgins is an author, podcaster, and educator based in Concord, New Hampshire. With a background in public education spanning over two decades, she holds advanced degrees in Educational Leadership through the Arts as well as Adaptive and Corrective Physical Education. Beyond her teaching career, she is a CrossFit coach and youth camp director who hosts the podcast A Thousand Tiny Steps and writes for Atmosphere Press, authoring the book Motherland.
Higgins' life and creative work are deeply defined by a story of overcoming extraordinary personal grief and medical adversity. Following the tragic loss of her 13-year-old daughter Molly to an undiagnosed brain tumor in 2016, Barb subsequently faced her own health crisis when she was diagnosed with three brain tumors. After undergoing treatment and beating the tumors, she went on to make national headlines by giving birth to her son, Jack, via IVF at the age of 57. Today, she uses her platform to share stories on trauma, loss, and resilience.
