Her Story

About Barbara

I started in the health industry in 2019 with my current company, and this was actually my first job in the industry. Before that, I was working in other places like in the mall while I was studying. They gave me an opportunity in the business department even though I was still a student and didn't have experience, which not many people do. I started as a Business Development Specialist and grew within the company, eventually being promoted to Business Development Director. Now I lead a team of 4 people and serve as the BD Director globally, supervising both U.S. and Latin American operations. My work focuses on finding new opportunities for the company by making connections with pharmaceuticals and doctors to develop clinical trials. A typical day involves meeting with different pharmaceutical companies, strategizing with my team to find new clients and projects, visiting doctors to recruit new principal investigators in areas like rheumatology or dermatology, and coordinating with my Latin American team on new projects. Our main area of focus is oncology, and I'm proud to say we have many successful stories of patients who have recovered or gained more quality years of life than expected through the clinical trials we help facilitate.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My current boss gave me the best advice when I started working here. He told me that I need to lose the embarrassment about my language. He said that just because English is not my first language, that doesn't mean that people don't want to communicate with me or don't want to work with me. I think that was the best advice, because as soon as I lost the embarrassment, I just grew in the company. It was amazing.
