Her Story

About Barbara

Barbara Kehr is a health and wellness coach based in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. She entered the fitness arena in 2007 and has since built expertise as a lifestyle medicine coach, diabetes prevention coach, fitness and work nutrition specialist, and behavioral change specialist, holding NBCHWC national board certification. After studying at Parsons School of Design, she transitioned from a career in graphics and art direction to health coaching, working as a fitness manager at New York Sports Club before moving to a wellness center as lead coach and eventually establishing her own practice. She attributes her success to her dual passions for health and art and encourages aspiring professionals to pursue certification promptly, engage in conversations, and support clients in making their own behavioral changes rather than directing them.

Ten minutes with Barbara

01What do you attribute your success to?

My passion for health and art. I decided to pursue this career because health is one of my passions alongside art. People who take positions they're not passionate about end up with a lesser quality of life.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Talk to a lot of people because talking is what's going to get you somewhere. Walk the walk. There's nothing wrong with helping people out, barter if you don't want to do something for free. Don't keep taking more classes before starting - get your certification and go do it while getting other certs. Don't tell people what to do, help them do what they want to do. Take courses in behavior modification.
